Are we giving our children the respect they deserve.
ARE WE SHOWING OUR CHILDREN THE RESPECT THEY DESVERE?
Children and teenagers today are facing more challenges than in 1962 when I was born. It is not that they have more to cope with but I feel they have different opportunities and have access to multi media and social networks via the Internet. They talk in a lot chat rooms and correspond a lot via mobile phone. I guess when I was kid we did not have all those things. Is that a good thing or bad thing well that is the question.
It is important to value our children and let them grow up free of restraints and give them the respect and honesty that they deserve. The world wide web has a far more expansive social media that we could ever imange and as adults and parents it is vital that we let our children explore that.
It takes courage not to interfere when our children are talking to people who we have never met and we do not even know who they are. If we educate them and show them respect and give them the chance to talk to us when they want to, it is not as hard as all that. If we keep interfering they will only want to do things more. Why not let them find out things for themselves we can only encourage them to make the right choices and assist them to develop and make their own relationships.
After all they have the right to choose there own lives and learn through their own experiences and mistakes. Gently let them know what is right and wrong and let them express their views as well. Having a one sided conversation with a teenager may be a challenging prospect. Open up the discussion. Have a set time each day where they can tell you what they are feeling so they can off load and know that they are going to be listened to. Say half an hour after dinner or at 7pm. these are only a few suggestions.
